Review: Is Maybelline Primer The Best Drugstore Primer?

maybelline primer

One of the most crucial steps in any make-up routine is applying primer. Many people skip this step and end up with uneven looking foundation. If you want to achieve that flawless foundation that makes your skin look silky smooth then a good primer is what you shouldn’t skip. I recently bought Maybelline’s Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer to test out the difference between any other moisturizer and actual primers.

This Maybelline Primer has been around for a while now but I have never got the chance to buy it earlier. Before this, I always tried to use a hydrating cream to give my daytime look a more natural finish. Since I have been using this primer for about two months now it’s only fair if I tell my readers about the end result. Is it just another over-hyped product or is it the real deal? Keep reading the article to find out:

Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Review

Maybelline is a globally-renowned brand whose makeup products can be found in every shop. As a brand, they have aced the combination of high-end quality with drugstore prices. Maybelline Primer is also no different when it comes to product quality and price of the tube. Its main function is to minimize the appearance of the pores, so much so that it gives the illusion of baby skin.

If you don’t prefer cream-like primers then the Maybelline primer will be perfect for you as it is an extremely lightweight transparent gel. The gel hydrates and moisturizes the skin which helps in the smooth application of the foundation. It has a silica formula, emollient, and cherry extract. The carefully curated formula helps in achieving that radiant, youthful-looking skin. The best thing about this primer is that it doesn’t have any fragrance in it and it’s also non-comedogenic. This also means it has no scent because they didn’t use any perfume. This is good news for people with sensitive skin who can use it easily as it doesn’t have basic skin irritants that are sadly found in many makeup products.

Overall Performance Of Maybelline Primer

How To Apply: Take a pea-sized amount of the primer gel on your hand and then apply it on your face with soft hands. You can also specifically focus on the areas with larger pores for most people that focus area is around the nose. Always keep in mind to apply it before starting your makeup, no concealer or foundation before primer as it won’t be effective then.

Product Packaging: Most Maybelline products are known for their no-nonsense professional packaging. Maybelline Primer is also no different but it definitely is the cutest looking tube. The color is bright light-blue with pink printing on it. Products in this much cute packaging often don’t work but luckily this isn’t the case here.

Texture Of The Primer: As I mentioned earlier, it is a gel-based product which makes it great for everyone. Like most gel products it absorbs into the skin quickly and mattifies it. The product will feel a bit heavy for some time but that feeling will be gone soon.

Pros & Cons Of Maybelline Primer

Pros

  • Highly affordable
  • Non-comedogenic
  • Long-lasting
  • Minimizes pores
  • Great For Everyday Use

Cons

  • Only Good Enough For Skin With Small Open Pores
  • Not The Best Primer Available

Final Thoughts

Maybelline has a great track record of providing high-quality products and this one is also no different. Since I live in a country with mostly humid weather, my biggest concern was if it will help with the longevity of my makeup. Gladly, it did that. My skin does not have huge pores so on that front I couldn’t judge it much. Overall it primed my skin well, I could see a bit of blurring effect that helped with the application of everything else. To conclude, if you want an affordable primer for every use then this is definitely for you. Having said that it’s certainly not the best primer out there. If you are someone who prefers a primer that completely mattifies your skin for a glam look then I am afraid this primer won’t get the job done.
